Ames Police Department has not been able to locate Thomas Dooley, 21, who has been missing since Jan. 31.

“Absolutely nothing. This kid’s just vanished,” said Geoff Huff, investigations commander for Ames Police, about Dooley.

Dooley’s father filed a missing person report Feb. 12 after Dooley’s friends and family had not seen or heard from him since Jan. 31 when his girlfriend at the time filed domestic abuse charges against him. Dooley had been living in West Ames before he disappeared, and his roommates have not been able to contact Dooley.

“So far we think it’s because he wants to be missing; he’s trying not to be found,” Huff said. “His family kind of thinks that, too, but obviously until we find him we don’t know.”

Huff said they have heard rumors that Dooley may be in California or Arizona, but nothing has been confirmed.
