Distance medley relay highlights day one of ISU Classic

The first day of the ISU Classic featured one of the most anticipated events of the meet in the distance medley relay. The field featured three teams that held top-ten nationally ranked times on the season so far, including Iowa State.

Iowa State’s distance medley relay team was coming off a program best time that they set last week in New York. Iowa State was not able to replicate last week’s performance, and finished with a time of 11:12.86, about a second slower than last week, good for a third place finish.

Duke took first in the event with a time of 11:06.87, and Minnesota edged out Iowa State by one hundredth of a second, with a time of 11:12.85, for second place.

The distance medley relay team this week was made up of Perez Rotich, Ejiro Okoro, Kendra White, and Bethanie Brown.

Other highlights from day one include Kelly McCoy finishing third in the high jump event, Ese Okoro finishing fourth in the 600-yard run, and Sam Bluske running the fifth fastest time in school history in the 5,000-meter run.

Action from the ISU Classic will continue to tomorrow morning at Lied Recreational Center.
