Cyclone Hockey sweeps Hawkeyes

The Cyclone Hockey team finished it’s series with a 5-2 win on Saturday to sweep the Hawkeyes.

In the first game of the series, the No. 10 Cyclones (27-8-2, 11-5-0 CSCHL) only scored one goal against their Division II rival, but in the second game their sticks came alive in their win against the Hawkeyes (13-10-1).

In the first period, forwards Trevor Lloyd and Chase Rey put the puck in the back of the net for the Cyclones. Iowa ended the period down one, however, with a goal by UI forward Bobby Acri.

A goal by UI forward Ryan Smith brought the Hawkeyes even with the Cyclones in the second period. But forward Matt Bennett returned the lead to Iowa State halfway through the second.

The Cyclones added to their lead in the third period with goals by forwards Preston Blanek and Nate Percy.

Iowa State will be on the road next weekend to take on Lindenwood on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.
