The ISU gymnastics team tallied its highest total score of season, but fell short to No. 16 Oregon State by a final score of 196.425-194.750 Jan. 25 in Corvallis, Ore.

In its fourth straight meet against a top-20 opponent, Iowa State (1-4, 0-1 Big 12) was outscored on each event. Oregon State (3-1, 0-1 PAC 12) earned over 49 points on the uneven parallel bars (49.250), beam (49.150) and floor exercise (49.050).

The Beavers were carried by junior Chelsea Tang, who won the all-around competition with a mark of 39.275. Iowa State’s Caitlin Brown finished second in the event with a career-high score of 39.150.

Milan Ivory also had a strong night for the Cyclones, totaling 29.300 points after competing on vault, beam and floor exercise.

Perhaps the most notable ISU performance of the night was by Michelle Shealy on the beam. In her first competitive performance since suffering an off-season lower-neck injury, the senior scored 9.725 on the same apparatus she finished fifth on at last year’s nationals.

Iowa State has 13 days off before returning to competition Feb. 7 to host West Virginia.
