Kane named Big 12 Player of the Week

Iowa State’s Deandre Kane has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the league announced this morning.
Kane was named MVP in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic last week when the Cyclones won the entire tournament after defeating George Mason, Akron and then Boise State in the finals.
This is Kane’s first player of the week award after he’d won Big 12 newcomer of the week twice this year. Against George Mason in a 79-67 win, Kane scored 13 points on 5-8 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Then in the 83-60 win against Akron, Kane grabbed his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Kane is one of two players in the country who average at least 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. He’s also the fifth different Cyclone (Naz Long, Melvin Ejim, Georges Niang and Dustin Hogue) to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors, which is the first time in Big 12 history that one school has had five players earn the award in one season.
Iowa State next plays Northern Illinois on Dec. 31 in Ames, Iowa. Tipoff at Hilton Coliseum is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
