Cyclones roll past George Mason 79-67

In its first game at the Hawaiian Airline Diamond Head Classic, No. 17 Iowa State rolled past George Mason 79-67. 

Georges Niang continued to add to his string of strong performances with a game-high 22 points on 7-14 shooting and added two rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The trio of Niang, Dustin Hogue and Deandre Kane played had a collectively efficient game, scoring a combined 52 points, making 18 of 31 attempts, tallied 14 rebounds and had 11 assists.

Melvin Ejim was the only other Cyclone in double-digits with a double-double effort of 14 points and 11 rebounds. 

Iowa State only made five 3-pointers in the game on 21 attempts, but made 22 of 28 free throws, sealing the game in the second half. 

Iowa State added to one of coach Fred Hoiberg’s favorite statistical categories with 18 assists on 26 made field goals, while turning the ball over only nine times. 

Iowa State will play Akron in the next phase of the Hawaiian Airline Diamond Head Classic on Monday. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
