Iowa State bounces back against TCU in five sets

After losing its first match in over a month on Wednesday versus Kansas, the No. 24 ISU volleyball team bounced back with a road win against Texas Christian.

The Cyclones (18-7, 11-3 Big 12) defeated the Horned Frogs (15-14, 3-11 Big 12) in five sets (25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 25-27, 15-12) in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday.

After leading 2-0 after two sets, Iowa State dropped two tightly-contested sets in a row before rallying to win its penultimate road match of the season. 

The ISU offensive attack was led by junior outside hitter Victoria Hurtt, who had 16 kills and was one of four Cyclones to record ten or more.

Five ISU players also had double-digit digs. Senior libero Kristen Hahn led with 28, while sophomore righside hitter Mackenzie Bigbee notched 10 digs to compliment 16 kills.

TCU entered the match averaging a .236 hitting percentage, but was held to .175 against Iowa State.

The Horned Frogs, who entered Saturday’s match holding opponents to a .220 hitting percentage, allowed a .259 hitting percentage to Iowa State.  

Saturday’s victory for Iowa State marked a season sweep of TCU. Iowa State won the first matchup in Ames on Oct. 26, 3-0. 

Iowa State will return to action for its final home match of the year against No. 1 Texas on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
