Identity of driver released by Ames Police Department

The Ames Police Department has released a statement concerning the identity of the driver that led a high-speed chase through Iowa State on Monday, Nov. 4.

Tyler Comstock, 19, of Boone, Iowa, has been identified as the suspect.

The suspect drove a white truck through Central Campus, eventually coming to a stop on the north end of Central Campus in a grove of trees. After failing to comply to verbal commands, Ames Police officer Adam McPherson fired off shot six rounds.

McPherson has been with the department for more than eight years. He was placed on paid administrative leave yesterday.

Geoff Huff, investigations commander for Ames Police, said yesterday that at least one of the rounds fired by McPherson hit Comstock.

Comstock later was pronounced dead at Mary Greeley Medical Center on Monday. 

The Ames Police news release states: “A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”
