How-to: Pack an all-day bag

Ali Hanson

With Iowa State offering many activities and with class loads being  demanding, it is sometimes hard to make a trip back to your room after your day has begun. There are many essentials a college girl needs throughout her day and no one wants to be unprepared while out-and-about.

After getting many opinions, I compiled a master list of must-have items for an everyday bag. Some people might not need every single item listed; use your own judgment to decide which make the cut.

The necessities for your all-day bag:

  • Your phone… Must we explain?
  • Portable phone charger, for the girl that outlasts the energizer bunny
  • Laptop and protective case
  • Headphones, to block out the world
  • Planner, to store all your scheduling details
  • Single-day notebook for all your classes
  • Pen, pencil and marker
  • Sticky notes to jot side notes
  • Keys to your dorm or apartment and car if need be
  • University ID
  • Drivers license
  • Debit card for necessary Caribou transactions
  • A few dollars and spare change
  • Gum and mints to recover from your Caribou coffee
  • A couple Wisps (disposable toothbrushes)
  • Pain relievers and personal products for unexpected aches
  • Travel-sized hand sanitizer, for the germaphobe
  • Travel-sized lotion during dry weather conditions
  • Travel-sized deodorant
  • Roll-on perfume wand
  • Tide-to-go stick
  • Extra hair ties
  • Bobby pins to tame your mane
  • Lip balm to keep your lips luscious
  • Two or three lip colors, for the glamorous gal
  • Reading glasses and extra contacts
  • Sunglasses and mittens, seasonally
  • Mini-package of tissues to stay polished during your cold
  • Water bottle to keep hydrated
  • Cliff bars or other filling treats to avoid a crash
