field day aug 1

On August 1, turfgrass specialists will meet at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station for an annual field day.

Some of these specialists are the faculty and stuff who worked on painting and servicing the Jack Trice stadium’s field, which was named the 2012 best College Football Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA).

The methods used to take care of this lawn will be presented to other specialists such as golf course superintendents, sales people, or anyone else who would like to attend, as registration is available on location.

Among the methods presented, people who attend will be shown the proper way to apply pesticides to avoid special types of turfgrass insects, as well as managing weeds, and being wary of neighboring ponds.

Field day doesn’t only apply to the turfgrass specialists alone, either: at the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm, crop producers are also sharing their methods with others who are interested.

That which will be presented includes corn development studies, new soil moisture measurement capabilities, and cumulative energy costs for the crops.
