Not only does her work on the court pay off, but ISU senior forward Chelsea Poppens’ effort in the classroom is a point of achievement as well.

Poppens was named Tuesday to the Senior Class All-American First Team after being named a finalist for the award earlier this season. Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne earned the individual 2012-2013 Senior CLASS Award.

Poppens status as a Division I senior student-athlete made her eligible for the award as well as having notable achievements in four areas of excellence — classroom, community, character and competition.

Joining Poppens on the first team was Elena Delle Donne, California’s Layshia Clarendon, Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame, and Purdue’s Drey Mingo.

Poppens also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors this year for the second straight year as well as being named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. The Aplington, Iowa, native was also recently named an Associate Press honorable mention All-American.
