The ISU men’s 4X1,6000-meter relay team had a tough act to follow after the women’s team won the event at the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

Redshirt freshman Alec Baldwin began the relay and led after handing it off to sophomore Edwin Serem. Serem kept the pace going as he handed off to freshman Jacob Aune.

Aune won the 4×400-meter run at the Drake Relays last year in high school at Cedar Rapids Prairie.

“In high school there were a couple kids that were good, and here everyone is fast, so that’s different,” Aune said.

Aune handed off to senior Mohamed Hrezi but Notre Dame and Minnesota were too quick to keep up with as the Cyclones finished third. The Cyclones finished with a time of 16:56.29, Notre Dame won the race in 16:42.89 and Minnesota came in second in 16:45.51.

“It was a bit of a disappointment to be honest; we were expected to win and our three guys ran very well, but then I didn’t quite come through for the team,” Aune said. “We were disappointed, but we are running for conference, not for the Drake Relays.”

Under the lights on Jim Duncan Track, redshirt senior Taylor Peterson placed 18th with a time of 17:27.56 In the final event of day two at the Drake Relays, redshirt sophomore Besu Shannon-Tamrat placed 23rd with a time of 15:10.66.
