Bloons Tower Defense 5 Mobile Review (PRINT ED.)

Levi Castle

“Bloons” is the sort of game that anyone who was bored in high school will remember. Maybe even middle school. Regardless of age, the game is an enjoyable classic that hasn’t seen the end of its days.

“Bloons Tower Defense 5” for mobile is an extremely fun game for the price. The unlock system, XP progress and updated HD visuals give this game an edge over “Bloons Tower Defense 4.” It’s nice to have a different feel on an old classic and setting up balloon-popping monkeys feels somewhat fresh again.

Granted, some things just feel re-skinned. The music is repetitive and hardly different from “Bloons Tower Defense 4,” and it can wear on you after a while. I recommend spending your time with this game listening to your own tracks.

The addition of new monkeys (towers) is a welcome one, and, of course, some of the old favorites are back, such as the tack shooter.

This genre of game is addicting, and Bloons has been doing it right for years. But because of the price ($3) for a lot of what we’ve seen before, I’d wait for this to go on sale. When it does, and if you don’t have a tower defense mobile game yet, be sure to pick this one up.

“Bloons Tower Defense 5” gets a 3.5/5 stars.
