After two overtimes, the ISU men’s basketball team lost its fifth road game of the Big 12 season to Texas, 89-86 in double overtime.

Yet another foul-or-not sequence came up at the end of regulation and this time Hoiberg decided to have his team foul. It worked at first, sending a Texas player to the line.

But the second time, Ionnas Papapetrou sunk a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left to tie the game at 71 and ultimately sending it to overtime.

One overtime wasn’t enough as it was knotted up 78-78 heading to a second overtime. Iowa State was outscored 10-7 in that period, as a late Tyrus McGee 3-point rattled out.

Melvin Ejim led Iowa State with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Will Clyburn had another 20 point game, but it came on 16 shots. The Cyclones only shot 35 percent from the field and 33 from behind the arc.

Texas’ Sheldon McClellan scored all 10 points in the second overtime to push Texas ahead, he had 18 on the night. The Longhorns also welcomed back formerly suspended guard Myck Kabongo after serving his 23-game suspension from an NCAA ban, who scored 13 points and had seven assists in his debut.
