Kansas rallies to beat Iowa State in overtime

It was another overtime game in Lawrence, Kansas, for No. 23 Iowa State and also another game where the Cyclones came up short in the end.

Iowa State fell to Kansas, 78-75 on Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse after leading by 18 points with 8:56 left in regulation. The Cyclones (14-5, 5-4 Big 12) have now lost three overtime games in a row to the Jayhawks (13-6, 4-4 Big 12) at Allen Fieldhouse.

With 9:24 left in the first half and the scored tied at 16, Iowa State began to seize control of Kansas going on a 18-9 run to close the half and went into the break leading, 34-25.

In the second half, the ISU lead grew to 18 points and a score of 55-37 off of a layup by center Anna Prins with an assist from point guard Nikki Moody. The Jayhawks were not through, however, and would go on an 18-10 run to tie the game at 65 with 16 seconds left in regulation.

In overtime, a 3-pointer by guard Nicole “Kidd” Blaskowsky would not go for Iowa State with two seconds left and Kansas would hold on to its three-point lead and close out the win.

Guard Brynn Williamson led the way for ISU scorers with 19 points while going 5-of-8 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Moody finished with 8 points, 7 assists to 4 turnovers and 4 steals before fouling out of the game in overtime.

Iowa State will be back in action in Hilton Coliseum on Saturday as it plays host to Texas Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
