Iowa State fights back, wins at West Virginia

After back-to-back losses at No. 12 Oklahoma State and at home against No. 1 Baylor, No. 24 Iowa State found itself back in the win column on the road beating West Virginia, 53-49 on Saturday night.

In the Cyclones’ (14-4, 5-3 Big 12) first trip to Morgantown, W.Va., they found themselves down 22-8 against the Mountaineers (11-8, 3-5 Big 12) with 11:32 left to go in the first half. Iowa State would back climb into the game  going into halftime down by nine points, 34-25.

The Cyclones spent the second half chipping away at the Mountaineer lead before a game-tying 3-pointer by forward Hallie Christofferson knotting the score at 43. Iowa State went on a 10-6 run in the final 6:24 to close out the victory.

Christofferson led all scorers with 23 points while shooting 6-of-7 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. She also added seven rebounds in the win.

Point guard Nikki Moody and forward Chelsea Poppens each had 10 points while Moody earned six assists and Poppens finished with seven rebounds.

Iowa State will be on the road again Wednesday as it takes on Kansas. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
