Cyclone Hockey takes win, weekend series sweep

After an 11-0 blowout Friday, the Cyclone Hockey team was prepared to keep the ball rolling in its second game of the weekend series Saturday against Dakota College-Bottineau. 

Freshman forward Georgi Iskrenov started out the scoring with a goal for Iowa State five minutes into the first period.

Sophomore defenseman Antti Helanto added a goal later in the period, before Iskrenov tallied his second goal to put the Cyclones up 3-0 to finish out the first period.

Sophomore forward J.P. Kascsak scored a quick goal to begin the second period to put Iowa State up 4-0.

Junior forward Jon Feavel found the back of the net on a short-handed breakaway goal at 7:54 in the second to add to the Cyclones’ lead. Freshman forward Scott Antonsen scored shortly thereafter to give the Cyclones the 6-0 lead to close out the second period.

After two more goals for Iowa State, the Cyclones took the second game of the series 8-0 and completed the sweep of the Lumberjacks.

Senior goalie Paul Karus saved 12 of 12 shots on the night.
