Cyclone Hockey trounces Lumberjacks in part one of doubleheader

The Cyclones headed into their weekend series against Dakota College-Bottineau prepared to finish out the first half of the season with a bang.

Iowa State started out the scoring with a goal from junior forward Jon Feavel at 10:36 in the first period and would close out the first period with the 1-0 lead.

Cyclone forward David Elliston added another goal at 2:47 in the second period and Iowa State never looked back.

Three minutes later, junior forward Mark Huber tallied another goal for the Cyclones, making the score 3-0.

Senior forward David Kurbatsky decided he wanted to get in on the action and scored two goals of his own at 8:35 and 8:53 in the second.

After a goal by senior forward Derek Kohles, the Cyclones held the 6-0 lead to conclude the second period.

Following five more goals by Iowa State, including two goals by sophomore forward J.P. Kascsak, the Cyclones finished out the game with the 11-0 shutout win.

Junior goalie Matt Cooper saved 14-of-14 shots on the night.

Iowa State will play Dakota College-Bottineau again Saturday night at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena at 7:30 p.m.
