STILLWATER, Okla. — The ISU football team lost to Oklahoma State 31-10 on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.

Offensive struggles for the Cyclones (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) again stunted their potential success one week after nearly knocking off then-fifth-ranked Kansas State.

“You’ve got to continue to examine the plan that you’re coming into it with — what’s right, what’s wrong, why was it wrong,” said ISU coach Paul Rhoads after the game. “Eleven guys have got to execute; there’s no different play call that you can make to catch a ball.”

Jared Barnett continued to shoulder a brunt of the blame for the struggles of the offense, which was out-gained by the Cowboys (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) in total yardage 625-341. Barnett, in his fifth loss as the starting quarterback, went 19-for-39 for 206 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The Cyclones managed just 52 yards rushing outside of Barnett’s total 49 on the ground.

“We just couldn’t get it going,” Barnett said of the running game. “It was the line not getting a push enough and also the running backs not seeing the holes.”

Iowa State began the game with a 79-yard drive the resulted in a touchdown pitch on the option from Barnett to Jeff Woody. That drive marked the first time Oklahoma State did not score first for the first time this season.

After the first two possessions, circumstances changed as Oklahoma State went on to score 21 unanswered points.

“We were executing — and that’s what our offense can be, and that’s what we’re working toward,” Woody said. “And after that, it became that hair short.”

Steele Jantz entered the game for Iowa State early in the fourth quarter, leading the team to a quick three-and-out to further destroy momentum with the Cyclones down by just two touchdowns.
