The ISU swimming and diving team opened strong this Saturday. Oct. 20, against South Dakota State in its first home meet of the season. Within the first hour, the Cyclones held a 115-34 lead.

Iowa State went on to beat South Dakota State 184-102. This leaves Cyclones with a 1-1 record after their loss to Minnesota last week in the season opener.

Iowa State finished with 14 first-place finishes, meaning only two events went without a Cyclone placing first. Notable finishes included sophomore Amanda Paulson, who finished first in her two events.

Swimming in the 50 freestyle, Paulson finished with a time of 23.71, giving Iowa State nine points in the meet. Paulson also took first in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 59.01.

With a (1-1) record, Iowa State will take on South Dakota and Nebraska in a double dual home meet 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Beyer Hall.
