The No. 21 Iowa State volleyball team got a break from Big 12 competition Tuesday with a night cap against South Dakota State. Mackenzie Bigbee led the Cyclones (14-7, 7-3 Big 12) offensively with 13 kills and Kristen Hahn contributed 25 digs to complete the 3-0 sweep.

The sweep marks the seventh consecutive match the Cyclones have started out 2-0 and the fourth time the team has won the elusive third set during that span.

Iowa State jumped out to an early start in the first set and kept a comfortable lead for the majority of the frame. The Jackrabbits (16-10, 7-4 Summit League) kept it interesting by putting together a 9-2 run but to no avail as the Cyclones won 25-22.

The second set followed similar suit, but both teams found themselves tied up at 16-16 halfway through the game. A kill from the freshman Bigbee broke the tie and the Cyclones retained the lead for the remainder of the 25-19 victory.

Iowa State wasn’t able to start the third set as well as the previous two but broke an 11-11 tie early on and didn’t let the Jackrabbits regain the lead. Freshman Andie Malloy sealed the deal with a kill and the Cyclones won the third and final set 25-22.

Next up, Iowa State returns to conference play with Texas Tech at home on Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
