Steele Jantz threw for 381 yards and tied Iowa State’s record of five touchdowns in a game, while he recorded his first Big 12 win as a quarterback. He also tied the record for most completions with 36. He completed 36 of 53 passes on the night. 

To start the game, Iowa State attempted an onside kick, but failed. After a pair of three and outs, Iowa State punted, but Durrell Givens recovered the muffed catch.

Iowa State failed to convert on the opportunity as Edwin Arceo hooked his 32-yard field goal wide left. 

Jantz finished the quarter 9-of-15 with 62 yards, but there were also numerous drops. 

Even with Jantz’s numbers in the first quarter, Iowa State made a switch starting the second quarter with Jared Barnett, who fumbled his second snap and went three and out on his first drive. 

Jantz returned on the next drive where he found Albert Gary on a 36-yard touchdown to tie the game up at 14-14. 

Then with less than two minutes to play, Jantz led the Cyclones to another touchdown to Jarvis West, his second of the night and his career to make the score 21-14. 

Jantz continued his good play against the No. 124 ranked defense in the country as he led Iowa State to another scoring drive to lead 28-14 at the end of the third quarter. 

He connected with Woody on a dump off pass. Jantz in the third quarter went 12-18 for 84 yards and score, while also throwing a crucial interception in the red zone a the beginning of the third quarter. 

West had the best game of his career, catching seven passes for 99 yards and  three touchdowns, including one on a third and 12 at Baylor’s 22-yard line where his zipped a pass to the back of the end zone that West snagged. 

Baylor responded quickly with a score of its own to make it 35-21 Cyclones with 6:14 left. 

Iowa State proceeded to grind out the clock, and then on the 100th play of the game, Jantz fumbled the ball giving Baylor 2:08 to comeback. It was all for not, as Deon Broomfield intercepted Baylor quarterback Nick Florence’s 50th pass of the game. 

Iowa State has improved its season record to 5-3 (2-3 Big 12). The nect game for Cyclone football is against Oklahoma on Nov. 3 at Jack Trice.
