The ISU women’s basketball program announced on Friday that junior Ashley Hagedorn was awarded a scholarship for the 2012-13 season by coach Bill Fennelly.

“She has worked hard and has been a good addition to our program so we wanted to reward that effort,” Fennelly said of Hagedorn in a news release.

Hagedorn came to Iowa State initially as a walk-on after two seasons at DMACC where she averaged 12.3 points and 3.5 steals per game. Hagedorn also earned all-region honors and helped lead her team to the regional semifinals.

“I’ve only been able to watch it, so to step out on that Hilton floor, it’s just really exciting,” Hagedorn said at media day on Wednesday about playing in front of the Iowa State fans for the first time. “There’s a lot going through my mind right now, but I’m looking forward to it and excited for it to happen. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”
