Quarterback Steele Jantz drove the Cyclones 75 yards in their opening drive for a 5-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Horne. Kicker Edwin Arceo missed the PAT, however, to keep the score at 6-0 in Iowa State’s favor.

The Cyclones’ first drive of the second quarter resulted in a field goal after Ernst Brun dropped a short pass at the goal line on third and goal for Jantz’s first incompletion of the game. Jantz was 10-for-10 with 119 yards and one touchdown before Brun’s dropped pass.

An interception by Tom Donatell late in the half ended the Cyclones’ drive that saw three first downs. The pick was Jantz’s second of the season.

ISU free safety Jacques Washington picked off Vandenberg with less than a minute to go to return the favor for the Cyclones. Washington’s return on the interception was 26 yards.

Jantz finished the half 11-of-14 in passing with 128 yards and one touchdown. Horne leads all receivers with five catches for 66 yards and one touchdown.
