A black Ninja Kawasaki, a sports bike, collided with a black Mazda Miata convertible on the corner of Lincoln Way and Stanton Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. The Mazda was pulling eastbound off Stanton onto Lincoln Way when the driver of the Kawasaki, who was driving eastbound, collided with the Mazda.

Police arrived on the scene at 9:11 p.m. to 9:12 p.m. Lincoln Way eastbound near the intersection of Lincoln Way and Stanton Avenue was closed to only one lane with the south lane closed until about 9:50 p.m. to 9:55 p.m. Ames Police officers directed traffic near the scene of the accident.

Lt. Tom Shelton of Ames Police said the driver of the Kawasaki complained of stiffness and left the scene without seeking medical attention and the driver of the Mazda left the scene and did not complain about injuries. Shelton said the police report is not complete and will take two to three days to be finished.

Liz Sundall and Laci Lucas, who claimed they saw the accident occur, said they were having a conversation with the driver of the Mazda prior to the collision with the Kawasaki. Sundall and Lucas said they had complimented the driver of the Mazda on driver’s car and asked if the car was a Miata, which the driver confirmed that it was.

Sundall and Lucas said they watched as the vehicles collided, and said the driver of the Kawasaki was suspended in the air upon collision with the Mazda, but got up after the accident.
