Cyclones fall to Illinois in straight sets

The ISU volleyball team fell in straight sets Friday evening in its first of two matches this weekend against No. 19 Illinois.

Leading 15-12 in the first set, the No.15 Cyclones (1-3, 0-0 Big 12) allowed a 13-1 run by the Illini (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten), losing the set 25-15. The Cyclones would drop the next two sets as well, 25-22 and 25-16.

Senior setter Alison Landwehr led Iowa State with 31 assists in the three sets, and sophomore outside hitter Victoria Hurtt led the team with 10 kills. The Cyclones went just 36-of-125 in attacks for a .096 hitting percentage. The team also committed 24 errors in the match.

Last weekend the Cyclones began their season with a victory against Cincinnati before falling to No. 12 Florida State and No. 15 Tennessee. Iowa State will take on Illinois again Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Champaign, Ill.
