During his time at Iowa State during the early 1970s, Matt Blair became one of the best defensive players in Cyclone history and was named to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1999.

Now, Blair has been named one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings of all time, being named to the team’s Ring of Honor.

While at Iowa State, Blair became an All-American, and during his senior season in 1973, he tallied 77 tackles and three fumble recoveries. After the season he was selected by the Vikings in the second round of the NFL Draft.

From 1974 to 1985, Blair played in Minnesota and racked up 1,452 tackles, good for second in team history. He was also a six-time Pro Bowler and played on two Super Bowl teams.

Blair will be only the 20th player selected to the Vikings’ Ring of Honor.
