Team PrISUm continues to make a good showing at the American Solar Challenge.

Hyperion, the team’s solar car, was the second car to make it across the checkpoint Tuesday in Kalamazoo, Mich.

According to a release from the ISU news service, the team surpassed Principia College’s 36 minute lead to cruise into third place in the overall competition. The University of Michigan currently leads the competition, with the University of Minnesota close behind. In order to take second place, Hyperion will have to make up a two-and-a-half hour deficit.

The team was able to take advantage of the Midwest’s sunny skies and hot temperatures, cruising down the road at close to 55 mph at times.
