According to a presentation Tuesday during the Special Student Fee and Tuition Committee meeting by Michael Giles, director of recreation services, the comprehensive Recreation Fields Improvement Project is nearing completion.

The project is resulting in major improvements to Recreation Services field areas at the Lied Soccer Complex, Towers Recreation Fields and the Southwest Athletic Complex.

Giles said the opening has been delayed due to poor grass growth in the dry weather. New grass is scheduled to be planted in the fall.

After multiple “positive changes and additions to the original concept, the current projected Recreation Services share of the project cost is $528,610 with an overall project budget of $839,860,” according to the handout.

Field lighting improvements have also been made to the Lied Soccer Complex. The lighting fixtures are being modified with an estimated cost of $125,000. Giles said these will be the first lit fields Recreation Services has ever done.
