A theft charge against ISU defensive back Matthew Thomas has been dismissed.

The fourth-degree theft charge that stemmed from an incident in an ISU dining center in early February, was dismissed May 18, according to Story County court records.

Iowa State University Police Lt. Elliott Florer told the Daily in February that a woman reported Feb. 2 that her iPod had been stolen off her table at Seasons Dining Center.

After reviewing the surveillance tapes of Seasons Dining Center, Florer said that a person matching Thomas’ description was seen on the tape. Police then searched Thomas’ residence, but did not find the iPod.

Thomas turned himself in Feb. 8 and was released on bond.

He entered a not guilty plea March 16 and the charge was dismissed May 18.

Thomas redshirted in 2010 and spent the 2011 season behind starting cornerback Jeremy Reeves.

In February, the ISU athletic department said Thomas had been suspended indefinitely. But Tom Kroeschell, associate athletic director for athletic communications, said Thursday, “Matt is a member of the team.”
