Iowa State names new senior vice president and provost

Jonathan Wickert, dean of the College of Engineering and one of the candidates for senior vice president and provost, discussed how he would handle the position in an open forum in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union on Monday, April 23. Wickert came to Iowa State in 2007 and was a formerly a faculty member of the Carnegie Mellon University engineering department.

Iowa State University has named Jonathan Wickert, dean of the College of Engineering at Iowa State, as the new senior vice president and provost. 

Wickert will take the position on July 30, at which time an interim dean will be assigned for the College of Engineering and a search will begin to fill that position. 

ISU President Steven Leath chose Wickert for the position after a several finalists visited the university. The decision must still be approved by the Iowa Board of Regents.

“Jonathan Wickert has shown strong leadership and an innovative approach to issues facing the College of Engineering and the university as a whole,” Leath said in a Tuesday news release. “He’s the right person to lead a talented group of deans and other senior university officials in further advancing the quality of our academic programs.”

Wickert has been apart of the Iowa State staff since 2007 when he became chair of the department of mechanical engineering.
