Welcome Back: Letter from the editor: The start of a journey

Annelise Wells

Welcome back, Cyclones!

Whether you are a freshman finding your way onto campus for the first time or are in your last year and have Ames memorized like the back of your hand, The Iowa State Daily welcomes you back to the wonderful land of cardinal and gold.

There’s something magical about coming back to campus in the fall. It’s the time for dusting off your striped cardinal and gold overalls for football games, reuniting with friends after the long summer break and finding your new go-to route to class. It’s the beginning of a new journey.

But on your journey throughout the year, sometimes you need some guidance. That’s where we come in.

The Iowa State Daily is a resource that’s sole purpose is to serve you. Through a five-day-a-week print product, a daily e-newsletter and constant online content, our job is to provide you with all the information you need to enhance your time at Iowa State and keep you up-to-date.

With that being said, we also hope you will be a part of the Iowa State Daily’s journey. Do you love music and writing movie reviews? Check out our limelight section, where arts and entertainment thrive. Have opinions that you want to share? Become a columnist or submit a letter to the editor. Want to learn skills that will help you in any field of work? Come join our staff, no matter what college your major resides in.

As an organization, we have our own journey to embark on as well.

We had a busy summer. We redesigned our Daily Dose e-newsletter that hits your inbox everyday with a fresh new look and we really got our podcast initiative off the ground, providing you with news and sports content in a more consumable, interactive fashion.

But we are just getting started. On our journey this year, we are going to continue the digital initiatives that we began over the summer with videos, live shows and increased social media content. We are going to provide you with complete, fair and holistic information in our coverage of this caucus season. We are going to continue telling the stories of underrepresented voices from all backgrounds in our Voices section and live storytelling opportunities.

As previously stated, The Iowa State Daily aims to serve you. So if we aren’t serving you in the best way possible, we want to know about it. If you have questions about the reporting process, see areas we need to improve on, or have any suggestions, please reach out to us.

You can reach out to me personally ([email protected]) and I am more than happy to grab a cup of coffee and discuss how we can improve our work. Also feel free to stop by 2420 Lincoln Way, suite 205 for a tour of the newsroom and to see our amazing staff working hard.

Welcome back, Cyclones. I think it’s going to be a great year.  Here’s to the beginning of a new journey.

All the best,

Annelise Wells
