Committee honors 2012 Veishea Scholars with scholarships

The Veishea committee awards five scholarships every year to high school seniors who plan to attend Iowa State in the fall. Here are the 2012 Veishea Scholars:

2012 Veishea Community Involvement Scholarship recipients

Jackson Mores, Harlan Community High School

Involvement: Student council, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, mock trial, 4-H, golf, football, swimming, soccer, golf camp instructor, flag football coach, safety camp counselor and volunteer at his county’s fair.

Hobbies: Running, wakeboarding, wakesurfing and longboarding.

Future plans: Major in biology and then attend medical school.

Adam Striegel, Tri-County Community High School

Involvement: Cross-country, basketball, track and field, baseball, National Honor Society, speech, drama, student council, band, choir, 4-H, county council, Future Farmers of America, his class’s vice-president and volunteer at local events.

Hobbies: Competing at FFA contests, showing livestock, spending time with families and friends, running and partaking in outdoor activities.

Future plans: Double major in agriculture education and another major that has yet to be decided.

2012 Veishea Leadership Scholarship recipients

Beau Easley, Waukee High School

Involvement: Football, basketball, track, National Honor Society, speech, Rachel’s Ambassadors Klub, youth sports coach, church confirmation class leader and mentor to fourth graders.

Hobbies: Creating art with sketching, charcoal, paints and pastels.

Future plans: Major in design. 

Adelai Swanson, Clarion-Goldfield High School

Involvement: Volleyball, basketball, track, dance team, choir, student council, spring plays, lifeguard, swim instructor, St. John’s Church and 4-H. 

Hobbies: Dancing, reading and spending time with her family and friends

Future plans: Major in agricultural business and obtain an ag law degree.

2012 Veishea Central Community 1972 Harms Memorial Scholarship recipient 

Kaitlyn Aldrich, Johnston High School

Involvement: Mock trial, color guard, National Honor Society, math club, academic decathlon, wind symphony, National Council on Youth Leadership, National History Day, choir, volleyball, Junior/Senior Board, Girl Scouts, middle school mock trial coach, summer camp counselor and district carnival volunteer coordinator.

Hobbies: Spending time with friends and family, watching movies, water skiing, snow skiing, biking and camping.

Future plans: Major in engineering.
