Fernandez leads team with second straight top 10 finish

The ISU men’s golf team finished in fourth place out of 12 teams at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., this past weekend.

Freshman Scott Fernandez led the team, finishing in sixth place individually with 74 on the first round, 70 on the second and another 70 on the final round, compiling a total score of 214.

Fernandez’s sixth-place finish marks his fourth finish in the top 10 this year.

Senior Nate McCoy was close behind, tying with a 14th-place finish. He scored a 75 on the first round, 71 on the second round and a 74 on the final, finishing with 220.

LSU beat out Iowa in the final round and took home the first-place trophy with a total score of 853. Iowa State finished with a total score of 882.

Iowa State will turn right around and compete in the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate in Columbia, Mo., next Monday.
