Ames Police respond to domestic incident; Sycamore Road reopened

Update (2:23 p.m.):

Lewis Rosser, 49, voluntarily left his house shortly after 1 p.m. and was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for evaluation, Cmdr. Jim Robinson said. Robinson said no one was injured. 

Update (2:06 p.m.):

Ames Police have reopened the 3100 block of Sycamore Road following a standoff. More details were not immediately available.


Ames Police have barricaded off the 3100 block of Sycamore Road in north Ames as they respond to a standoff.

Police responded to a call about a domestic argument around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The male left the residence, but returned at some point this morning.

Cmdr. Jim Robinson said the man has threatened his own being and that police are trying to make sure he’s OK. The man surrendered a hunting rifle to police, and police do not believe he has any other weapons.

Officers are speaking to the man, but have not entered the residence. Police said the man is the only person inside.
