First cut narrows Lip Sync field to five

Stephens Auditorium was packed full of members of the Greek Community all coming to watch their chapters clash against the competition in the first cuts of Lip Sync.

Hosted by the Lip Sync coordinators on Greek Week Central Ricky Williams and Matt Sheyko, 13 sorority/fraternity pairings squared off against each other, knowing only five would be moving on to finals this Friday.

“The auditorium was packed full of people talking and laughing,” said Nick Beck, a sophomore with a double major in accounting and finance. “And every time a pairing was announced their houses would start raging and cheering in their seats. It was a great atmosphere and a great way to see all of the hard work that was put into each performance.”

Tuesday night was the first time the groups, which have been practicing since mid-February, could perform their skit in front of a large audience.

After each of the 13 groups’ show was over, judges deliberated over each skit, taking notes of everything from facial expressions to crispness of moves, and chose the top five to move on to finals.

The pairings who made it past first cuts include:

Delta Zeta with “Diamonds Are Forever at ISU”

Gamma Phi Beta with “Once Upon a Greek”

Kappa Kappa Gamma with “Just a Click Away”

Delta Delta Delta with “A Quest for Style”

Chi Omega with “Solar System Shakedown”

Finals for Lip Sync will be held at 10:30 p.m. Friday in Stephens Auditorium.
