The ISU wrestling team won nine matches — including eight straight — in the first round of the NWCA National Duals Midwest Region, defeating Wisconsin 36-3.

The Cyclones (4-12, 0-6 Big 12) had bonus points in five of their nine victories against the Badgers (5-11, 0-8 Big Ten), who have not won a dual since Nov. 18.

Andrew Sorenson avenged his only loss of the season with a 3-2 victory against No. 11 Ben Jordan, who beat the ISU senior at the Midlands Championships in late December.

Sorenson, ranked fourth in the nation at 165 pounds, is now 24-1 overall and 16-0 in dual action.

Ryak Finch (125) and Joey Cozart (149) both won by fall early in the dual. It was Finch’s first pin since the Harold Nichols Open on Nov. 13 and Cozart’s first in an ISU singlet.

Trevor Voelker managed the lone loss for the Cyclones, dropping a 10-6 decision to the Badgers’ Jackson Hein.

The Cyclones return to the mat against No. 2 Oregon State in the second round of the tournament at 1 p.m.
