2 Iowa State students arrested in drug investigation

Two ISU students have been arrested as part of a drug investigation at 3362 Larch Hall.

According to a statement released by the Iowa State Department of Public Safety Police Division, two days ago a search warrant was obtained for the residence. While searching the room, officers discovered what looked like a small marijuana grow operation. The marijuana, some drug paraphernalia, an electronic scale and money were all seized.

Upon discovery of the evidence, a second search warrant was obtained for 1271 Friley Hall. During this search, ISU Police obtained drug paraphernalia, two electronic scales, drug packaging material, cash and several baggies of marijuana.

Nicholas R. Scaduto, 19, of 3362 Larch Hall, was charged with three class D felonies: failure to affix a drug tax stamp, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and manufacturing a controlled substance. Scaduto alsowas charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Noah T. Bergman, 19, of 1271 Friley Hall, was charged with two class D felonies: failure to affix a drug tax stamp and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Additionally, Bergman was charged with two simple misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol under the legal age.

According to the news release, Scaduto and Bergman were both transported to the Story County Justice Center.

A class D felony is punishable by confinement of not more than five years and a fine of $7,500.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
