NWS issues wind advisories for Wednesday, Thursday

With the early morning cancellation of the winter weather advisory, the National Weather Service in Des Moines activated the second wind advisory. The advisory will remain in effect, as originally scheduled, until 6 p.m. Thursday.


The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for Wednesday and Thursday as a cold front approaches the Ames area.

The advisories, in effect on both sides of a winter weather advisory, are for now until 6 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Winds from the northwest are expected to increase between noon and 3 p.m. and reach speeds of 25-35 mph. Gusts could be as high as 45 mph.

Strong winds are expected to prevail through Saturday.
