Two new clothing stores may be coming to Ames.

A representative from TJ Maxx confirmed that the discount clothing and home goods store intends to open soon.

“At this point, we can announce that we intend to open a store in Ames next fall,” said Carrie Garfield, media relations supervisor for the national retail chain in an interview with the Ames Tribune. “But we aren’t prepared to announce anything else at this time.”

There has been no official word on the proposed location of the store.

Previously, an email from Bill Fox, leasing representative with North Grand Mall owner GK Development, indicated that both TJ Maxx and Kohl’s may be coming to the mall. However, Kohl’s has not confirmed this information.

It is possible that the stores would move into the area south of the mall, where Sears used to be. In July, a representative from North Grand Mall told the City Council that they were looking for two national retailers to anchor that area.

Representatives from TJ Maxx, Kohl’s and GK Development were not immediately available for comment Tuesday.
