Letter to the editor: Students need to speak out on important issues

Sam Osborne

The Republican Party has fallen totally into the destructive control of social conservatives and radical Christians that in abuse of service to we the people shortchange our children’s future.

They let the cost of their college education go up and up, license forces of greed that enables the destruction of the environment they will inherit, pass on a huge debt of neglect of the nation’s infrastructure, poison the well of original thinking with bigotry and intolerant superstitions, and would like to turn schools into foundries that hammer out like-thinking dolts that know the cost of everything and value of nothing.

The immigration mess created in Alabama is exemplary of the actions of a Republican Party out of control of common sense and in the pocket of an entitled few financial moneychangers that have come to own the Republican Party and the best politician’s money can buy.

Also, tragedy No. 2 at Virginia Tech is fostered from a neglect of rational public safety measures that get sidetracked by the kind of thoughtless “give-a-handgun-to-a-schizophrenic-bill” inanity bantered about as good humor by Republicans that have been in control of the Iowa House of Representatives.

It is time for young and older Americans that believe in government of the people, by the people and for the people to publicly express their rejection of the right-wing extremism that threatens to destroy our land of liberty and opportunity for all. Speak out and write to the editor of your newspaper.
