Former ISU offensive coordinator Tom Herman has been hired by Ohio State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Ohio State athletics department confirmed the hiring after reports surfaced yesterday.

The 35-year-old Herman, in his third year at Iowa State, will join the staff of new Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, who was hired on Nov. 28.

“Tom Herman has one of the bright young minds in college football,” Meyer said in a news release. “His philosophies are very similar to those of my own. I spoke to numerous colleagues about Tom and all had great things to say about him. I enjoyed our time together during the interview process and I am excited to have him on the staff.”

Iowa State made the official announcement on Herman’s status on Friday.

“We wish Tom and his family all the best,” said ISU coach Paul Rhoads in a news release. “Tom has made significant contributions as our offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. We appreciate the work he has done developing all our quarterbacks.”

Herman will join the Buckeyes’ staff following Iowa State’s bowl appearance against Rutgers in the New Era Pinstripe bowl on Dec. 30.

“To work with and for coach Meyer is an exciting opportunity for me,” Herman said in a news release. “I am really looking forward to working with him and learning about his offensive systems. And to be able to coach with him at The Ohio State University is simply a dream come true.”
