“Going green” is the focus of the International Student Council’s first event kicking off the 2011-2012 International Week.

Campus Clean-Up will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Cardinal Room of the Memorial Union. A free event and the first of its kind for ISC, Campus Clean-Up will attempt to retain the beauty of campus, said Ashok Rajan, event coordinator for International Student Council.

“Going green has been something which I’m very much interested in,” Rajan said .

Rajan said ISC was unsure about how to start an event to clean up campus and raise awareness about going green.

“We didn’t know what kind of event to do,” he said. “We can see the response this time, and if the response is good this time, we can try for something bigger next time.”

A short presentation on ways to live a “green” life will start off the event, Rajan said. Following the presentation, participants will be divided into smaller groups and will be sent out to different parts of campus.

Campus services will provide participants with latex gloves and garbage bags.

Students and others who wish to volunteer to clean up campus Sunday do not need to register ahead of time. Rajan asks that participants show up at the Cardinal Room at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The event goes until 2 p.m.
