Letter: Nowhere to park

Derrick Catlett, Graduate Student In Educational Leadership & Policy Studies

I have many different ISU parking stories but one that stands out is my freshman year when I was living in Eaton Hall right next to the UDCC. This was before any construction on State Gym or Beyer Hall started so the whole parking lot was open and intact.

I came back from class and was going to park my car in the Eaton/Martin parking and go to lunch but there were no parking spots available. I drove around the lots for at least ten minutes and not a single spot was open. I couldn’t park anywhere else because this was the only lot I had a parking pass for so I was forced to park in the back part of the lot.

I didn’t know it at the time but that was considered a completely different lot and my pass didn’t work for it. So naturally I was pretty surprised when I came back from lunch to see a yellow envelope on my windshield. When I tried to appeal my ticket all I was given was a piece of paper with very little room to explain what happened. I turned it in to the parking division and of course my appeal was not granted. I was penalized because my only lot to park in was full and I had nowhere else to park.

Thanks DPS
