Cyclones drop conference match to Sooners

The ISU soccer team faced a must-win situation Friday night in Oklahoma against the Sooners, but unfortunately for the Cyclones, they couldn’t find the back of the net soon enough, losing 2-1.

The Sooners (6-9, 1-3 Big 12) got on the board first with a goal from Caitlin Mooney just 13 minutes into the match.

Iowa State (6-8-1, 0-5) kept the differential at one for the remainder of the first half and entered halftime down just 1-0, but the Sooners continued their scoring early in the second half as well.

Annalisa Hall took a shot in the 52nd minute that banked off the crossbar and over the line for the score to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Cyclones weren’t going to go down that easily however, and sophomore Jennifer Dominguez answered back with her fourth goal of the season in the 65th minute.

Both teams stepped up in the final 25 minutes to keep the score at 2-1, and with the loss, the Cyclones will have a hard time advancing to the conference tournament with just three conference matches left.

Iowa State will get a break from the conference matches Sunday, when the team will travel to Southeast Missouri State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
