Katherine Klingseis

Name: Jacob Duncan

Classification: Sophomore

Major: Pre-architecture

Where are you from?: Winterset.

What was your favorite part about your first year at ISU?: My favorite part about my first year was meeting new people and trying new things.

What were some challenges you faced your first year at ISU?: One of the most challenging parts of my first year was picking a new major. I started my freshman year in aerospace engineering, something I had wanted to do since I was 12. After completing one semester, I realized that AER E wasn’t the right choice for me, so I started to search for a new major. It took a while, but I eventually decided to change to pre-architecture, and I am thoroughly happy with the decision I made.

What is some advice you would give a new ISU student?: Be outgoing. If somebody has their dorm room door open, don’t just ignore them. Pop in and introduce yourself. They would close their door if they didn’t want you talk to them. Talk to people you sit by in classes. They are just as nervous to talk to you, but if you break the ice you could end up making a really great friend.

Sidenote: If you forget people’s names, let them know. It can be very awkward a month later when you are trying to get their attention and don’t know what to say.
