Update (1:05 p.m. Aug. 1):

An autopsy was performed this morning on the body of Shane De Jong, an ISU student who died Saturday morning in an apartment at 320 Hillcrest Ave. The autopsy showed no signs of foul play, Sgt. Rory Echer of the Ames Poilce Department said.

Echer said that a toxicology report will be completed in four to five weeks. He said that De Jong’s death appears to have been an unfortunate incident.

Shane De Jong, junior in interdisciplinary studies, was found dead this morning in an apartment at 320 Hillcrest Ave.

An unidentified person called the Ames Police Department at 10:56 a.m. today, and reported that De Jong was unresponsive and not breathing, said Lt. Tom Shelton of the Ames Police.

Shelton said that De Jong was staying with some friends. He was unsure if the apartment belonged to De Jong or his friends.

There were no signs of foul play, but the incident is still under investigation, Shelton said. He said that an autopsy will be performed tomorrow to find out the cause of death.

The Iowa State Daily will post updates as they become available.
