Former ISU basketball player John Lamb was arrested in his home Monday night on a marijuana charge.

Lamb was charged with manufacturing marijuana, according to a story by the Des Moines Register. The arrest occured at 8:51 p.m. on Monday and Lamb was later released after posting bond.

Sgt. Scott Kickbush of the Central Iowa Drug Taskforce said Lamb was charged with posession of marijuana with an intent to deliver. Kickbush said the arrest came following the execution of a search warrant for Lamb’s residence that was a result of an ongoing Taskforce investigation.

“Our investigation continues,” Kickbush said Tuesday afternoon. “We haven’t finished sorting through everything.”

Kickbush said the warrant was focused specifically on Lamb and no others were involved in the incident.

“Other people may come to our attention through the course of investigation,” Kickbush said, “but this warrant was focused on Mr. Lamb.”

The arrest comes a week on the heels of new basketball assistant coach Cornell Mann’s arrest on an OWI charge. Mann, the newest hire to coach Fred Hoiberg’s staff, was cited early last week on a charge of driving under the influence in Dayton, Ohio.

Lamb, a former transfer to the men’s basketball team from Morehead State, was released from the squad in March, shortly after the Cyclones’ season had reached its end.

ISU athletics spokesman Mike Green confirmed Lamb’s release Tuesday morning, saying it was not publicized becuase of Lamb’s status as a transfer student. Lamb was required by NCAA rule to sit out the entirety of the 2010-11 season, but would have been eligible to play for the Cyclones this fall.

Green said Lamb had not taken part in any team activities since his release in March.

Lamb saw no time for the Cyclones last season, but while at Morehead State, he saw time in 56 games — primarily off of the bench — and shot 30.8 percent from 3-point range (54-of-175) in his two full seasons with the Eagles. Lamb played only one game in 2010 for Morehead State before transferring.

Lamb, a Delta, Colo. native, is a senior in liberal studies.

He did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
