Accident on Mortensen leaves one dead

A Honda motorcycle hit a Kia Sorento around 4 p.m. April 1, at the corner of Welch Avenue and Mortensen Road. The road was blocked and traffic was rerouted for a few hours. The accident is still under investigation.

An accident at the intersection of Mortensen Road and Welch Avenue on Friday afternoon left a motorcyclist dead.

The motorcyclist was identified as Dillin Nickson, 29, of Lake Mills according to Ames police reports. Nickson was a sophomore in aerospace engineering and was in the Iowa National Guard.

The accident happened when Nickson’s Honda motorcycle collided with a Kia Sorento driven by Michelle Farley, 22, senior in theater.

The police report said Farley pulled out of the driveway into the Wallace parking lot into Nickson’s path.

No charges have been filed yet. The case has been turned over to the Story County’s attorney’s office.
