Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity kicks off March 4

The Iowa State Conference On Race and Ethnicity, or ISCORE, strives to promote diversity and understanding.

The conference will kick off Friday with Tahira Hira, executive assistant to the president and professor of human development and family studies.

ISCORE is a local model after the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education, or NCORE.

The conference will address issues faced on a national level but will allow the ISU community to discuss issues and possible solutions in a more local setting.

There are several sessions throughout the day that address Iowa State’s diversity, such as:

  • “Fake it to Make it” from 10 – 10:50 a.m.
  • “Coming Out Multi … in a White Society” from 2:10 – 3 p.m.

The keynote address will take place at noon and will be given by 1968 Olympic medalist John Carlos.
